Methodist Hospital, the largest provider of stroke care in South Texas, has earned Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification from DNV GL Healthcare, USA, Inc., one of the leading accrediting agencies in the United States.  Facilities certified as Comprehensive Stroke Centers offer the most advanced stroke treatment available in a given geographic area.

“We are proud of our team at Methodist Hospital for earning this certification,” said Gay Nord, hospital CEO.  “We are dedicated to providing the highest level of care for our stroke patients.  Earning this certification means that we are meeting the highest standards of care.”

The certification requires an annual survey and continual compliance by the organization with the DNVHC Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification process.   The certification incorporates elements from the hospital accreditation standards of the National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO) as well as requirements from the Guidelines of the Brain Attack Coalition and Recommendations of the American Stroke Association.  The emphasis these programs place on deploying a disciplined management system, combined with the relevant clinical best practices, sets DNV GL stroke certifications apart from other programs.

DNV Healthcare is the only hospital accreditation program approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that integrates the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.

This distinction comes just a few short months after Methodist Hospital received both the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite and the Mission Lifeline® Gold Award Receiving Quality Achievement Award, signifying the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that stroke and heart attack patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.
