  • Built in 1973 by H.B. Zachry, Metropolitan General Hospital, as it was first known, was the first hospital in the country built using modular architectural design techniques similar to those used in building the historical Hilton Palacio del Rio Hotel along the San Antonio Riverwalk. In 1995, Metropolitan Hospital became part of the Methodist Healthcare System.
  • Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, a campus of Methodist Hospital, welcomes nearly 4,000 newborns into the world each year. The Women’s Pavilion offers women and their families comfortable and spacious labor, delivery and recovery rooms. The Pavilion features seven antepartum beds for pregnant women experiencing complications before their due date, 16 labor and delivery suites, 35 postpartum private rooms for mothers recovering after childbirth and 16 newborn intensive care beds for babies born prematurely or who need special medical attention right after birth. For those mothers who wish to upgrade to larger, private rooms, four special suites are available on a first come, first-served basis for an additional fee. • Metropolitan Methodist Hospital features a daVinci® Surgical System that allows surgeons to perform major surgeries by making only small incisions and inserting robotic arms into the incisions. The magnified, 3-D view the surgeon experiences enables him or her to perform precise surgery and complex procedures including prostate, open heart and urological, as well as other procedures. The advantage for the patient is less pain, faster healing and a reduced chance of infection at the site of incision.
  • Metropolitan Methodist Hospital Breast Center offers the MultiCare PlatinumTM stereotactic breast biopsy system. This is a technique in which the patient’s breast is slightly compressed and held in a position to ensure the accuracy of the procedure. Images are taken, and special software pinpoints the exact location where the tissue samples are taken. The skin is numbed with a local anesthetic and a small needle is used to obtain several samples. Metropolitan Methodist Hospital Breast Center is one of only a few facilities in South Texas offering conscious sedation stereotactic breast biopsies.
