We have a highly trained and experienced staff of nurses, technicians and physicians offering round-the-clock care for the emergency department. We have 83 beds dedicated to stroke and other neurology patients with five to seven operating rooms devoted to neurosurgery on a daily basis.
In addition to our highly responsive emergency services staff, we have a 24/7 in-house medical team that includes a wide-range of neurology specialists:

- Neuro Interventional Radiologists are available to treat intra-arterial thrombolysis, mechanical clot retrieval and coil treatment for aneurysms.

Neurologists are available for consultations regarding administration of t-PA, a clot-busting drug approved for use in certain patients having a stroke. Timely administration of t-PA can reduce loss of physical and mental functioning that strokes can cause.
The Gamma Knife® Center at Methodist Hospital is the only one of its kind in South Texas, providing treatment options for those diagnosed with tumors or lesions developing deep inside the brain or coiled around the base of the skull. This device offers the most advanced radiosurgical treatment available. The Gamma Knife is not a knife at all but a highly effective instrument used to pinpoint affected areas of the brain and to treat those areas with intensely focused beams while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue from overexposure to radiation.

The hospital is equipped with advanced imaging devices that allow doctors to diagnose a stroke. Neurologists are available to prescribe clot-busting drugs when appropriate. Neurosurgeons are also available to provide surgical intervention if necessary.
Northeast Methodist HospitalA Campus of Methodist Hospital
Northeast Methodist Hospital is a Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center with an emergency team trained to act quickly to determine if you are experiencing a stroke. The hospital is equipped with advanced imaging devices that allow doctors to diagnose a stroke. Neurologists are available to prescribe clot-busting drugs when appropriate. Methodist Stone Oak Hospital
Methodist Stone Oak Hospital offers both minimally invasive fusion and discectomy procedures. Minimally invasive disc surgery can help patients experiencing radiating pain in their extremities due to a pinched nerve. This surgical procedure is performed through an incision less than one inch long. Using a system of tubes ranging from 14 – 16 mm in diameter, surgeons are able to make dilate the muscle, creating an opening large enough for a tube that allows the surgeon to view the area through a surgical microscope. The herniated disc can then be removed without cutting muscle and tissue. This surgical technique means patients experience much less pain than tradition back surgery. Those suffering from spinal compression or pain related to a herniated disc or patients who are suffering from degenerative spine disorders are considered good candidates for minimally invasive techniques.
Methodist Children’s HospitalA Campus of Methodist Hospital
The Pediatric Neurosciences Program at Methodist Children’s Hospital treats a variety of pediatric conditions including brain tumors, hydrocephalus, chronic headaches and chiari malformations. We have an operating room dedicated solely to pediatric neurosurgery with equipment designed especially for children. The OR features a neuronavigation system that helps surgeons pinpoint the exact location of a brain tumor or lesion. For craniofacial reconstruction, Methodist Children’s Hospital uses absorbable plates and screws, so that as the child continues to grow, the material will be gradually absorbed into the body. This process is a superior choice compared to former techniques that required permanent screws and plates.
Physicians in the Pediatric Neurosciences Program work with maternal/fetal medicine physicians and families of children who have determine through prenatal testing that their newborn will have a brain or spinal disorder. The team can provide consultations to a family on what to expect so they can better prepare for the baby’s arrival. The pediatric neurosciences program physicians also partner with clinical specialists in the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant program for cases in which stem cell transplant would help save a child’s life.
