The Women’s Pavilion
The Women’s Pavilion at Methodist Hospital takes a family-centered approach to maternity care with a comprehensive range of obstetrical and gynecological services. The Women’s Pavilion welcomes more than 5,000 newborns a year. The unit features 24 labor/delivery/recovery rooms, including deluxe private suites with sitting areas for family members. At Methodist Hospital, all obstetrical nurses are specially trained in fetal heart monitoring to help them quickly identify and respond to signs of fetal distress. Special Deliveries
New moms are experiencing Special Deliveries at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. Family-centered care, spacious labor and delivery rooms and private postpartum rooms make each family’s experience enjoyable. A labor and delivery nurse will admit you to the unit and perform an initial evaluation. She will also work closely with your attending physician to ensure a safe and healthy delivery. You will be admitted to one of our private delivery suites – everything in the room is designed for you, your baby and your family’s comfort and safety. Each family also receives a free, fully customized Biovideo® DVD capturing the highlights of each newborn’s arrival. A professional team of digital photographers unobtrusively capture precious moments and emotions documenting (discreetly) the birth, mother’s first minutes with the baby and the baby’s introduction to the rest of the family.
- After your child’s birth and Coordinating with your personal physician, Methodist Stone Oak offers well-baby care and post-partum PKU (phenylketonuria) testing. A simple blood test is used to determine whether the baby has the enzyme needed to use phenylalanine in his or her body. Learn more at http://www.suitedeliverysa.com/
- Great community support has made Methodist Stone Oak Hospital grow quickly over its first year. As a result, the hospital will add more beds to its mother/baby unit, a neuro intensive care unit, a specialized orthopedic area and more.

Obstetrics
With a separate portal in our spacious main-floor lobby, Methodist Stone Oak Hospital is becoming one of the most popular hospitals in the city for expectant moms. Methodist Stone Oak Hospital has delivered more than 1,100 babies since the facility opened in March 2009, and the hospital is exceeding expectations of families with its personal care and services that include:
- nine luxurious private labor and delivery rooms that include ergonomically designed birthing beds to enhance comfort, flat screen TVs, guest Wi-Fi and rooming-in options for family
- two C-section operating rooms
- a neonatal intensive care unit with nine beds
- 15-minute massages for in-patient moms
- Biovideo® - a free DVD of baby’s first day – offered to all moms and families
Before You Have Your Baby
Methodist Stone Oak Hospital is part of the Methodist Healthcare System, and offers the experience, knowledge and resources of Methodist Women’s Health services. Methodist Women’s Health has been the trusted source for area women for many years. You can pre-register for Methodist Stone Oak obstetrics services.
Methodist Stone Oak Hospital offers FirstSteps childbirth classes free of charge for parents planning to have their baby at our facility. In a series of classes, FirstSteps offers important information about preparing yourself and your family for the new birth experience and the new arrival.
In your months of antepartum care – the months leading up to the birth – you take care of your baby by taking good care of yourself. Good nutrition, stretching, exercise and plenty of rest will help you feel better as your body goes through the miraculous process of birth. Methodist Stone Oak Hospital is available for pre-partum testing as may be advised by your physician.
Delivery
When the day comes, pull up to our main door – a valet will park your car – and come directly to the Women’s Services desk in the lobby. A labor and delivery nurse will admit you to the unit and perform an initial evaluation. She will work closely with your attending physician to ensure a safe and healthy delivery. You will be admitted to one of our private delivery suites – everything in the room is designed for you, your baby and your family’s comfort and safety. If you elect to receive a free Biovideo, a two-person camera crew will discretely record scenes from this historic day.
Breastfeeding
For the first months of life, you are your baby’s best source of nutrition. Methodist Stone Oak Hospital is a certified Texas 10-Step Lactation Center. We have lactation consultant nurses available to offer assistance and training. Before you give birth and after, we can help answer all your questions. Sometimes the best thing a mother can have is a wise mentor and teacher – our obstetrics nurses are wise, educated and experienced. Breastfeeding is natural, but it takes a little bit of adjustment – we’re here to help you through any rough patches.
Metropolitan Methodist Hospital
Women's Services
Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, a campus of Methodist Hospital, welcomes nearly 4,000 newborns into the world each year. The Women’s Pavilion offers women and their families comfortable and spacious labor, delivery and recovery rooms. The Pavilion features seven antepartum beds for pregnant women experiencing complications before their due date, 16 labor and delivery suites, 35 postpartum private rooms for mothers recovering after childbirth and 16 newborn intensive care beds for babies born prematurely or who need special medical attention right after birth. For those mothers who wish to upgrade to larger, private rooms, four special suites are available on a first come, first-served basis for an additional fee. Free Pregnancy Tests and Family Services
Four Methodist Family Health Centers are conveniently located throughout San Antonio to better facilitate health care access for people living in underserved areas. The centers offer free pregnancy testing with immediate results, prenatal services, free physician referrals, information on free transportation to doctors’ appointments on the Methodist HealthBus Service and assistance in applying for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
