Our gastroenterologists specialize in diagnosing and treating digestive disorders. Whether you need treatment for stomach pain or liver disease, our specialists are here to care for your digestive tract needs.

Many people experience digestive issues but never discuss them because they can be embarrassing to discuss with someone else. Digestive diseases like acid reflux, peptic ulcers or lactose intolerance can really take a toll on your quality of life, so it is important to get treatment from a gastroenterology expert.

Common digestive disorders

Acid reflux

If your lower esophageal sphincter (LES) does not close all the way or opens too often, stomach acid can escape into your esophagus. This acid causes heartburn and other symptoms related to acid reflux like vomiting or the sensation of feeling like food being stuck in your throat.

Peptic ulcers

Peptic ulcers are caused by the breakdown of the mucus lining of the stomach or the esophagus from stomach acid. There are a lot of different reasons for this breakdown, including alcohol consumption, anti-inflammatory drugs or even acidic foods. If not properly treated, peptic ulcers can lead to other medical complications like internal bleeding or an infection of stomach tissues. During treatment, avoid any use of tobacco or alcohol to let your body heal quickly and effectively.

Lactose intolerance

Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, the main sugar in milk and other dairy products. Indigested lactose can cause gas and bloating. Lactose intolerance is usually cured by changing dietary habits or by over-the- counter pills, but sometimes needs to be properly diagnosed by a gastroenterologist as the symptoms may be associated with a more serious condition.
