Inpatient physical rehabilitation provides intense, daily treatment and physician services for people who need 24-hour help while they recover from surgery or conditions such as strokes.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation in Balcones Heights, Texas

If you have experienced an injury, surgery, or a chronic condition has become unmanageable, inpatient rehabilitation can be crucial for regaining your function or mobility.

At Methodist Hospital Texsan, our specialized physicians focus on providing rehabilitation services that seek to enhance quality of life. We treat a variety of conditions, including cardiac, neurological and orthopedic disorders.

Our inpatient rehabilitation services

At Methodist Hospital Texsan our 30-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Center offers acute inpatient services with a patient-centered approach.

Rehabilitation refers to the process of helping you recover from a serious injury or illness. Typically, you may have to regain strength and learn new ways of completing regular, daily activities. Physical therapy focuses on building strength and mobility after disease, injury or surgery, while occupational therapy focuses on activities of daily living, such as showering, dressing and eating. Speech therapy focuses on improving swallowing, language and cognitive skills, including problem solving and decision making.

Certain medical conditions or unexpected accidents may cause pain, limited function and limited mobility in the body. When these issues arise, our multidisciplinary team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, nurse case managers and physicians work with you to find the proper course of treatment that elevates your well-being. We offer 24/7 on-site availability of physicians, diagnostic testing and any necessary emergency care, in addition to behavioral health services, dietary evaluations and wound care consultations, as needed.

Over 80 percent of our patients are discharged to return home immediately without additional intensive rehabilitative care. In collaboration with patients and their loved ones. We offer individualized physical, occupational and speech therapies , as well as treatment plans that focus on potential, not limitations. Additionally, our hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Rehabilitation Stroke Accreditation, a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization's commitment to providing safe and quality patient care, something we aim for every day.

We treat individuals with conditions and restrictive injuries, such as:

  • Amputations
  • Brain injuries
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Orthopedic injuries
  • Movement disorders
  • Neurological conditions
  • Strokes

Upon completion of the rehabilitation program, our team will assist in making arrangements for equipment, medical care or other services that can enhance your return to independence.

Visiting patients

All patients and visitors must check in at the admissions desk through the hospital lobby entrance. Admissions desk staff will direct you to the rehabilitation center on the third floor. Parking is available for free in the lot outside the hospital.

Visitors are an important part of rehabilitation. To allow for focused therapy earlier in the day, we have open visitation hours, though we recommend visits for Monday through Saturday from 4:30pm to 8:30pm, and Sunday from 12:30pm to 8:30pm.

Special arrangements can be made for visitors to observe a therapy session and to learn more about services patients receive. If families or friends require overnight accommodations, please request a list of nearby hotels from our rehabilitation staff.
