Chief Executive Officer, Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital
Dan Miller was appointed Chief Executive Officer for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital in 2018 bringing with him fifteen years of healthcare leadership experience. Prior to joining Methodist Healthcare, Dan held the title of Chief Operating Officer at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado and most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center of Aurora in Colorado.
During his tenure as CEO of The Medical Center of Aurora, Dan was instrumental in championing many successful initiatives such as securing funding for several major expansion projects in addition to a new hospital being constructed to serve the growing population in the region. He also contributed to the organization improving many key metrics and outcomes, leading to a five star rating from CMS, being named Best Regional Hospital by US News and World Report, and receiving a Top General Hospital designation from Leapfrog, one of only 45 hospitals across the country to receive this honor.
Under Dan’s leadership, Methodist Hospital has been named Best Regional Hospital by US News and World Report. He has been efficacious in developing the largest robotics hospital in the nation, having performed the highest volume of cases among any other hospital. In addition, Methodist Hospital has expanded its cardiovascular network and has been recognized as the most comprehensive and largest provider of cardiovascular care in the region, including the largest ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) program in South Texas.
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Rachel Goldsmith returned to Methodist Hospital in November, 2021 after serving as COO for Methodist Hospital Northeast. Her strengths include both organizational/service line growth as well as employee engagement and relationship-building. During her tenure at Methodist Hospital Northeast, Goldsmith had oversight of the daily operations of all procedural, ancillary and support areas and staff of over 300 full-time employees. She led over $40 million construction projects, including a 30-bed inpatient unit, a hybrid operating suite, an electrophysiology lab, and the vertical addition of 3 parking garage levels, among others. Goldsmith was instrumental in developing a lung nodule program, spearheaded the design and construction of an outpatient surgery department, and implemented the opening of a new free-standing emergency room and plans for a new medical office building (MOB).
Having formerly served as Vice President of Operations, Business Development and Strategy for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital, Goldsmith advanced the adult and pediatric cardiovascular service line through programmatic development, operational oversight, physician recruitment as well as quality and regulatory management.
Diana H. Henderson
Chief Medical Officer, Methodist Hospital
Diana Henderson, MD, joined Methodist Hospital as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in late April, 2022 after serving as Chief Medical Officer for Methodist Hospital Metropolitan since 2014. Dr. Henderson has twenty years of clinical experience, having formerly practiced as an ENT surgeon in San Antonio. During this time, she has established herself as a leader in the San Antonio medical community and an innovator in the area of hospital quality.
During her tenure as CMO for Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, Dr. Henderson helped enhance facility pandemic response through a focus on physician communication. She was engaged in targeted quality and patient safety improvement processes, which attributed to the achievement of 11 consecutive A-grade ratings from the Leapfrog Group, including the recognition as Top General Hospital in 2017, one of only three in the state. She also established the first Heart Team preoperative assessment concept, which had a significant positive impact on the care of heart surgery patients for Metropolitan and is now used by all Methodist Hospitals, resulting in equally significant improvement at all facilities.
Lori Townsend, MHA, BSN, CCRN-K
Chief Nursing Officer, Methodist Hospital
Lori Townsend, MHA, BSN, CCRN-K was appointed Chief Nursing Officer of Methodist Hospital in 2020. An experienced leader, Lori has served in healthcare for the past 35 years. Since 2017, Lori supported all Perioperative Services, Women’s Services, and Children’s Services as the Chief Nursing Officer for Methodist Children’s Hospital. Prior to joining Methodist Children’s Hospital, Lori worked at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada for 26 years. During her last five years at Sunrise, Lori served as Associate Chief Nursing Officer for the children’s hospital and women’s services.
Lori brings incredible experience and compassion for people, patients, and a dedication for the nursing profession. She has a long history of leading new programs, quality improvement initiatives, and helping team members achieve their clinical and career goals. Lori was instrumental in helping Methodist Children’s Hospital achieve the Level 4 NICU and Level 4 Maternal designation for the state of Texas, which illustrates the highest level of quaternary designation for those services. One of her many passions is ensuring all patients and families have an exceptional experience during their hospitalization. Under her leadership, employee and physician engagement scores year-over-year improved, employee turnover decreased, and the hospital consistently received high patient and family satisfaction scores.
Chief Financial Officer, Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital
John Armour was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital in 2021. John holds a 25-year tenure at HCA with extensive financial, operational, and accounting healthcare experience.
Throughout his career, John has held a variety of financial positions, including his former role as CFO in the HCA Gulf Coast Division where he was responsible for the financial management of Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, Pearland Medical Center, and Mainland Medical Center. John has also served in CFO roles at Kingwood Medical Center, Bayshore Medical Center, East Houston Medical Center and Texas Orthopedic Hospital.
John is responsible for anticipating and addressing financial roadblocks while controlling assets, leading teams, monitoring productivity, and meeting financial goals. He assists the CEO to shape strategy and provide the financial acumen in order to meet established business plans and targets.
He holds a BBA from Southern Arkansas and a MBA from Northcentral University. John has been instrumental in many growth and development initiatives throughout his career and was recognized as a Houston Business Journal CFO of the Year nominee in 2018.
