Our care philosophy

Our dedication to patient well-being is reflected in our choice of bariatric surgery and weight loss. We are committed to the enduring change it fosters in our patients' quality of life. Witnessing individuals in our clinic who have ceased all their diabetes medications and now move with greater ease is immensely rewarding. The transformation allows them to engage more fully with their children or grandchildren, relishing a life they couldn’t fully embrace before. Bariatric surgery delivers unparalleled, long-term advantages to patients, diverging from traditional medical approaches. Instead of initiating patients on medication regimens to manage diseases, we can discontinue medications post-surgery as they become unnecessary.

Types of bariatric surgery offered

The Methodist Hospital Landmark Bariatric and Weight Loss Center provides various bariatric surgery options:

Gastric banding

This procedure involves placing a band around the upper stomach to create smaller and larger sections, helping patients feel full sooner. We also offer adjustments or removal for previous gastric band procedures.

Sleeve gastrectomy (gastric sleeve)

A sleeve-shaped stomach section is created, reducing its size and altering gut hormones to decrease hunger and improve blood glucose control.

Gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y)

This surgery staples a small pouch in the stomach and connects it to the small intestine, bypassing a portion of the digestive tract to aid weight loss.

Duodenal switch

The duodenal switch is a bariatric procedure involving a stomach sleeve and a bypass of most small intestines. It creates a smaller stomach pouch and changes the digestive tract to reduce food intake and nutrient absorption. With the average patient losing 85 percent of the excess weight, it is widely considered the option for the greatest weight loss. It also results in diabetes remission in 99 percent of cases two years after surgery.

Bariatric revision surgery

For complications or inadequate weight loss after previous procedures, revision surgery helps correct issues and improve results.

The Landmark Bariatric and Weight Loss Center also offers robotic weight-loss surgery featuring smaller incisions, reduced discomfort, less scarring, and faster recovery using state-of-the-art technology.
