Our physical therapy and rehab services
Certain medical conditions or unexpected accidents may cause pain, limited function and limited mobility in the body. When these issues arise, patients find the care they need at our Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Methodist Hospital Texsan. Our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team consists of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers or case managers and physicians. Patients have access to close medical supervision and 24-hour rehabilitation nursing.
Over 80 percent of our patients are discharged and return home immediately without additional intensive rehabilitative care. In collaboration with patients and their loved ones, Methodist Healthcare offers individualized physical therapy and rehabilitation as well as treatment plans that focus on potential, not limitations.
We treat individuals 18 years old and older with conditions including:
- Brain injuries
- Orthopedic injuries
- Neurological conditions
- Movement disorders
- Other disabling medical conditions or injuries
Upon completion of the rehabilitation program, our team will assist in making arrangements for equipment, medical care or other services that can enhance your return to independence.
What to expect for rehabilitation therapy
Most of the day is spent in active therapy. A typical patient day starts with breakfast at 8 a.m. Therapy takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch at noon. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. and quiet activity time or bedtime is at 9 p.m.
Patients can choose their own meals. We encourage patients to eat meals with others in our rehab dining hall and to participate in individual and group activities to overcome the hurdles with returning to normal tasks.
Pediatric rehabilitation services
Our Methodist Healthcare sister facilities in San Antonio, Methodist Hospital South and Methodist Hospital, offer comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy. Our compassionate, board-certified therapists use a variety of exercises in a kid-friendly environment to help your child reach his or her full potential.
Visiting our physical therapists
All patients and visitors must check in at the admissions desk at Methodist Hospital Texsan through the hospital lobby entrance. Admissions desk staff will direct you to the rehabilitation center on the third floor. Parking is available for free in the lot outside the hospital.
Visitors are an important part of rehabilitation. We have open visitation hours, though we recommend visits for Monday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to allow for focused therapy earlier in the day.
Special arrangements can be made for visitors to observe a therapy session and to learn more about services patients receive. If families or friends require overnight accommodations, please request a list of nearby hotels from our rehabilitation staff.
