Chief Executive Officer, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak

Michael Beaver, JD, FACHE, joined Methodist Hospital Stone Oak as the Chief Executive Officer in April 2024 and has more than 24 years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry.

Previously, Michael served as Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital Northeast and supported one of the fastest-growing communities in the nation. During his tenure, the hospital had historic growth to include the addition of two floors, 60 new inpatient beds, and a 9,000-square-foot emergency department expansion to serve more than 50,000 emergency patients annually. He was instrumental in expanding the campus to include a hybrid operating room, an electrophysiology lab, a new medical office building with an outpatient surgery center, and an employee parking garage. He also oversaw the opening of Methodist ER Converse, Methodist ER Nacogdoches, and Methodist ER New Braunfels, three new free-standing emergency departments.

Under his leadership, the hospital achieved the "Pathways to Excellence" distinction in recognition of the incredible engagement of nursing staff and is only one of two hospitals in San Antonio to receive this honor. Michael has long-championed a positive employee culture focused on patient experience, evidenced by the community voting Methodist Hospital Northeast as a San Antonio Express-News "Best Hospital in San Antonio" for an impressive four consecutive years from 2020 – 2024.

Michael began his career with Methodist Healthcare in 2006, serving as Chief Operating Officer of Methodist Hospital, Methodist Children's Hospital, and Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant. In this combined scope, he was responsible for the hospital operations of 1,258 beds and 4,300 full-time employees. In 2012, he began serving as President of St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City before returning to Methodist Healthcare in 2014 to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital Northeast.

Michael holds a master's degree in health care administration from Trinity University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, and a bachelor's degree in speech communication from Oklahoma State University.

Chief Medical Officer, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak

Judy Tan Shumway, DO, MPH, FACP, SFHM, joined Methodist Hospital Stone Oak as Chief Medical Officer in September 2023.

Prior to this role, she served as Senior Vice President of Clinical Services at University Health in San Antonio. During her tenure, Dr. Shumway provided oversight of quality, patient safety, accreditation, and regulatory compliance. Dr. Shumway also led a strategic focus on mortality rate reduction resulting in University Health's 2022 achievement of Top Decile Performance within the Premier cohort of hospitals.

Preceding her time at University Health, Dr. Shumway served as the West Regional Medical Director for TeamHealth, where she led Hospitalist Medicine practices in seven locations across Texas to achieve high-performing outcomes through improvements in quality, efficiency, and effective communication.

Dr. Shumway earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, and a Master of Public Health from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.

An accomplished professional, Dr. Shumway has been named a Top Hospitalist by the American College of Physicians, as well as Hospitalist of the Year by IPC The Hospitalist Company. She is also a Member of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement and completed an Executive Coaching certification at the Hudson Institute of Coaching to enhance effectiveness in developing other future leaders.

Chief Nursing Officer, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak

Glenn joined Methodist Hospital Stone Oak as the Chief Nursing Officer in September of 2024.

Prior to joining Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, he was the Chief Nursing Officer at Methodist Hospital Northeast, where he led a robust nursing professional practice model, which earned the hospital its second American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence designation. Under his nursing leadership, the nursing teams prioritized employee growth and development, leading to the internal growth of many nursing leaders, with the majority starting as residents. Glenn fosters a culture of belonging, which has helped the nursing teams increase engagement and decrease turnover.

Glenn earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas - Health Science Center at Houston. His professional vision is to serve, develop, support, and guide staff and leaders to transform how they serve patients.

Chief Operating Officer, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak

Brandon Cohen, MBA, MHA, joined Methodist Hospital Stone Oak as Chief Operating Officer in November 2024. Prior to this role, Brandon served as the Associate Chief Operating Officer (ACOO) for HCA HealthONE Swedish, a 504-bed level I trauma and ABA verified Burn Center hospital in Denver, Colorado.

During his tenure, he led executive oversight for surgical services, interventional radiology, laboratory, the burn and reconstructive service line, imaging, and more. He partnered closely with quality and nursing departments to improve operational efficiencies and patient outcomes, helping the hospital achieve national awards, such as PINC AI™ Top 100 Hospital and Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital. Brandon was also instrumental in several capital expansion projects, including the addition of 90 new inpatient beds, more operating rooms, a new sterile processing department, a new kitchen and a cancer pavilion. Additionally, Brandon served as the Vice President of Operations for HCA Florida Ocala Hospital following his time as an Associate Administrator and Administrative Resident for HCA Florida Ocala.

Brandon earned his Master of Healthcare Administration and Business Administration from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Chief Financial Officer, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak

Gabriel Marrufo, MBA joined Methodist Hospital Stone Oak as Chief Financial Officer in 2013. He has more than 20 years of financial leadership experience in healthcare and recently celebrated his 25th anniversary with HCA.

Prior to joining Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, Gabe served as the Vice President of Business Development for Del Sol Medical Center (East) and Las Palmas Medical Center (West). At that time, he was selected to participate in the newly initiated HCA Chief Financial Officer Development Program.

During his tenure at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, Gabe has been influential in various expansion projects including: a 42-bed Rehabilitation Center acquisition in 2020, adding seven additional Operating Room suites and a 100-bed tower expansion. He helped developed a $100 million growth plan, to further expand the spine robotic platform, both Cardiology and Electrophysiology service lines, the Sterile Processing Department and our second CT project. Under Gabe's leadership, the facility has grown from a Level C in 2013 to Level E in 2019 and EBITDA has grown from $20 million to $94.
