San Antonio, TexasMethodist Hospital Stone Oak recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the expansion of their cardiovascular services by increasing capacity within their electrophysiology (EP) lab. This new start-of-the-art expansion provides more space and shorter wait times to patients receiving advanced and complex cardiovascular care.

Within the EP lab, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak offers EP procedures, which consist of a series of tests that physicians use to evaluate the electrical activity of the heart. It’s often the first step in diagnosing an abnormal heartbeat (arrhythmia) or determining if there is another reason for a change in the heart’s rhythm. EP procedures vary in type depending on the arrhythmia suspected and are typically safe and relatively painless for those battling cardiovascular disease.

This expansion also allows Methodist Hospital Stone Oak to perform Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) procedures, making them the first in Stone Oak to provide this safer and faster procedure to patients needing cardiovascular care. PFA is an innovative technology that precisely targets and removes abnormal electrical pathways in the heart responsible for causing arrhythmias.

“As cardiovascular disease in our community rises, expanding spaces dedicated to treating advanced and complex cardiac cases is crucial in enhancing our patient’s overall quality of life and expediting their return to normalcy,” shared Dr. José Miguel Iturbe, MD, Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak.

Methodist Hospital Stone Oak continues to raise the standard of excellence across Texas, specifically in cardiovascular care, as exemplified in their recent acknowledgment as a 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital and 100 Top Hospital in the nation, according to Fortune / PINC AI for 2024. The hospital was also named among the Top 5% in the Nation for Patient Safety and has been one of the 250 Best Hospitals in America for the past two years, according to Healthgrades.
