In July 2023, a remarkable 97-year-old man, suffered a fall while reaching for his phone, losing his balance, and breaking his hip. This man is Danielo Tiongson. Fortunately, Mr. Tiongson's neighbor, Shelley, who is also a therapist at Methodist Hospital Texsan, was able to get to him quickly and called 911. Mr. Tiongson was transferred to Methodist Hospital for hip surgery.

After surgery, Mr. Tiongson was taken to the rehab unit at Texsan, where he was under the attentive care of Sheila, Nikky, Shelley, and other incredible nurses. During his recovery, Sheila noticed his stomach was extended, leading to the discovery of a perforated bowel. This serious complication sent him to the ICU for washout surgery and a colostomy. He spent about three weeks recovering in the ICU. His journey continued in the medical-surgical unit, as he battled sickness and weakness.

Unknowingly, Mr. Tiongson had suffered a heart attack as well during this challenging time. Luckily, he had a strong advocate by his side, Shelley, who supported him every step of the way. "We truly care like family," shared Shelley.

Throughout his journey, Mr. Tiongson was amazed by the wonderful nurses who cared for him in every unit he visited. After his hemi hip replacement (hemiarthroplasty), he noticed significant improvements. He could now take showers by himself and even started using 5-pound weights at home as part of his daily exercise routine. He expressed how appreciative he was of the team at Texsan, stating, "It's one of the best places I've ever been to, and I am so lucky to have Shelley as my neighbor."

Mr. Tiongson would wholeheartedly recommend the services at Methodist Hospital Texsan to others, emphasizing that the care he received was incomparable. Mr. Tiongson felt a deep appreciation for the unique approach of the team, which made a significant difference in his recovery journey. "He is special. He was a great patient, and everyone could not believe his age," said Shelley.
