Transplant patient Jessie Gutierrez, 35, from Lubbock, Texas, is grateful to his high school sweetheart for the positive impact she has made in his life. In 2016, Jessie found out he was in Stage 5 Renal Failure and needed to start dialysis immediately.

His wife Megan, 30, went to get tested to see if she was a match for husband, but she didn't tell him right away. When she found out she was a match to be a living kidney donor, she surprised him on his birthday with a framed photo of a kidney and a poem letting him know the big news.

Megan and Jessie planned the transplant surgery for Sept. 25, 2019, at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant in San Antonio. Jessie, a licensed plumber, and Megan, a patient care assistant, both back to work and are doing well.

"The Lord put her in my life for a reason," said Jessie. "It's been a blessing for sure."
