Please help us recognize lifesaver Veronica Garza, a nurse at Methodist Children’s Hospital.

Veronica was working out at a local gym when a stranger in the room collapsed. That stranger, Don Newkirk, was having a heart attack. Veronica acted quickly and began hands-only CPR and used an AED, which helped save his life.

Don ended up having quadruple bypass surgery. Once he was healed, his search for the nurse that saved his life began. We’re grateful Don is doing well today, and we’re proud Veronica was able to be a lifesaver in a stranger’s time of need. We’re so happy you two were able to reunite!

Did you know:

  • 90 percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest die prior to reaching a hospital or medical care facility.
  • Effective CPR provided by a bystander in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest can increase the chances of survival by 2x or 3x.
