Methodist Healthcare is delighted to announce the appointment of Teresa Burroff as General Counsel of the healthcare system. Burroff most recently served as Chief Legal Officer at TX Health Benefits Pool where she was responsible for the legal affairs, compliance, and privacy for the state’s health and benefits pool of municipalities and political subdivisions. In this capacity, Burroff also managed outside counsel, negotiated enterprise-level pharma and healthcare provider contracts, and served as a member of the executive and strategy team.

Previously, Burroff was the General Counsel and Secretary to the Board at South Dakota-based Monument Health System where she led the legal offices, managed care, risk management, compliance, and executive compensation teams across three states. There, she was able to reduce regulatory compliance liability from over $12 million to $300,000 and changed the classification of a key hospital which resulted in over $10 million in savings annually. Since 1999, Burroff has held similar leadership roles at organizations such as Ascension Texas / Seton Family of Hospitals and technology company Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

“Our mission is the foundation of everything we do,” said Dan Miller, President and CEO of Methodist Healthcare. “Teresa’s evident passion to uphold our mission, coupled with extensive legal experience spanning multiple markets made her an ideal candidate for this instrumental role.”

As General Counsel, Burroff will manage all legal matters for the system, as well as serve as a liaison to the Methodist Healthcare Board of Governors. “This position is an essential part of Methodist Healthcare — a unique partnership designed to support our communities by providing quality care to all and charitable care when needed,” said Dr. Michael Lane, Methodist Healthcare Board of Governors Chair. “With Theresa’s leadership, I look forward to all we will accomplish together by living out our sacred mission to support South Texas families.”

Burroff holds multiple degrees having earned her Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance from The University of Texas at Austin, a Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University, and Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Northeast Louisiana University.

Burroff will assume her new role at the end of February.
