San Antonio, TX — Methodist Hospital Metropolitan located downtown San Antonio, Texas, was selected as the inaugural winner of Outpatient Surgery Magazine’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. This award is just one of the many awards given yearly as part of their annual OR Excellence Awards.
For the past 13 years, the magazine has hosted the OR Excellence Awards, which recognizes facilities and staff that excel in eight key categories: patient safety, employee safety, pain control, infection prevention, patient satisfaction, financial management, environmental stewardship, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Winners are selected by the publication’s editorial team and exemplify the remarkable work and outstanding accomplishments of surgical professionals everywhere with their willingness to go above and beyond in striving for excellence on a daily basis.
“Methodist Hospital Metropolitan was selected as the inaugural winner of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award for taking the lead in providing welcoming care for members of the LGBTQ+ community,” said Daniel Cook, Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Director with Outpatient Surgery Magazine. “The significant and ongoing efforts of the hospital’s leadership team and frontline staff are a shining example of inclusivity that should inspire other healthcare systems and professionals to do the same for all patients.”
The hospital is also recognized as a “Leader in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. The HRC Foundation is an educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization. They have proven their commitment to providing high-quality care to the LQBTQ+ community and their families by earning top scores in meeting non-discrimination and training.
