Our pediatrics services

Led by compassionate experts who craft individualized treatment plans, our comprehensive program covers every facet of your child's health.

Pediatric craniofacial and plastic surgery

Our surgeons are nationally recognized for treating facial nerve disorders and cleft lip and cleft palate. With a multi-specialty approach, we offer numerous craniofacial and plastic surgery treatments, including bone grafting, ear molding, facial reanimation, helmeting and rhinoplasty. Whenever possible, our surgeons perform minimally invasive techniques to reduce your child's hospital stay, helping them return home sooner.

Pediatric emergency care

The board-certified physicians and registered nurses in our sensory-friendly emergency room (ER) are ready to care for your child 24/7. We recommend visiting the ER if your child is experiencing any of the following conditions:

  • Body numbness, tingling or weakness
  • Breathing troubles
  • Broken bones
  • Burns
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Fever
  • Serious head injury
  • Slurred speech
  • Toxic ingestion
  • Unresponsiveness

Pediatric heart care

As home to the Methodist Congenital Heart Institute, we offer one of the most extensive congenital heart surgery programs in South Texas. We treat a full range of heart conditions, including:

  • Aortic valve disease
  • Atrial septal defect
  • Atrioventricular (AV) canal defects
  • Cardiac failure
  • Coarctation of the aorta
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Coronary artery anomalies

Prior to treatment, we conduct diagnostic tests, such as biopsies, coronary angiograms and intracardiac ultrasound. We are also equipped with an echocardiology lab with tests that detect heart conditions in children.

Pediatric neurology

We provide new and innovative treatment methods to evaluate, diagnose and remove brain and spinal cord tumors. Our pediatric neurosurgery program features a highly skilled staff that includes neurologists, craniofacial surgeons, hematology oncologists and board-certified pediatricians. We treat conditions such as spasticity, cerebral cysts, spina bifida and craniofacial disorders.

Pediatric oncology

We know that a cancer diagnosis is an overwhelming time for your family. Our experts craft the most effective treatment plan for your child, prioritizing a holistic approach. Based on your child's unique diagnosis and needs, treatment may include bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. For psychosocial support, we provide art therapy and access to child life specialists, oncology psychology and social work.

Pediatric pulmonary care

We know that breathing problems can create distress for both you and your child. Our board-certified pulmonologists want to understand what's causing your child's respiratory issues so they can help them live and breathe better. As a first step, we conduct tests that measure airflow, airway reactivity, breathing, heart and lung function and other factors. Your child's diagnosis will determine the treatment they receive.

Pediatric spine care

Our spine care team brings together physicians, surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and many other specialists. They offer both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options for a wide range of conditions. Whether your child is experiencing neck and back pain or congenital and developmental forms of scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis, our specialists provide the individualized support they need. Nonsurgical treatments we offer include physical therapy and braces and splints. If your child's condition requires surgery, we use techniques like halo gravity traction to reduce spinal curvature caused by severe scoliosis.
