Our staff is dedicated to taking a holistic approach to the needs of our cancer patients and families. Our Psychosocial Oncology team understands that the emotional, psychological, spiritual and social impact of cancer is often more difficult to manage than the medical aspects of cancer care.
In the hospital setting, we offer clinical oncology social work consultations for individual, group and family counseling. Our clinical social work staff can help with:
- Adjustment to illness
- Anxiety and depression
- Caregiver support
- Parenting with cancer
- Stressors that come with cancer treatment
- Talking to children about cancer
We also provide individualized cancer education and support, family conferences and referral to outside cancer and financial resources to address the needs of the whole family.
Oncology nurse navigators
We work with Sarah Cannon, the Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare, to provide experienced, compassionate nurse navigators to support you as you go through the many stages of living with cancer. The cancer nurse navigator is your medical system advocate and will help you, and your family, understand each part of the cancer journey while compassionately supporting your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. The cancer nurse navigator will provide assistance with:
- Connecting you with community resources
- Improving communication amongst the healthcare team
- Overcoming barriers and coordinating care with the entire healthcare team
- Participating in multidisciplinary cancer conferences to ensure personalized cancer treatment
- Providing educational materials
- Understanding diagnosis and available treatment options
- Understanding what resources are available and how to access them
