Stacks of baby blankets of every color and size will be the focus of the festivities at the 19th annual Blankets for Babies reception as eight area non-profit organizations receive blankets collected during the drive. This has been a successful year for donations with nearly 3,000 blankets collected.

During November and December, new and used blankets in good, clean condition were collected at Methodist Healthcare facilities. Several churches, schools and community organizations also participated in the effort. On Tuesday, December 14, Mark McLoone, CEO of Methodist Children’s Hospital will present the blankets to representatives of Any Baby Can, Family Violence Prevention Services, Hill Country Family Assistance Program, the Children’s Shelter, Healy-Murphy Center, Precious Minds, New Connections of Catholic Charities, Ronald McDonald House, and the SAMMinistries.

This year’s blanket collection is dedicated to the memory of the late Brandi Reed, a former Methodist Healthcare employee, who for many years contributed her time to make the project a success. She died in September after a long battle with cancer.

VISUALS AND INTERVIEW POSSIBILITIES:

Colorful Blankets. The reception offers good visuals as the organizations receive huge boxes filled with colorful blankets. Mark McLoone will be available for interviews.

Grateful Recipients. Representatives of area non-profit organizations receiving the blankets will be available for interviews on how the annual drive benefits them. Great video opportunities showing the boxes being carried out to the trucks and cars of these representatives as they transport the blankets to their respective centers for distribution to needy clients.
