The Joint Replacement Academy is a dedicated inpatient center for elective joint replacement surgery. Our orthopedic surgeons are specially trained in the most advanced orthopedic technologies for hip and knee replacement, allowing patients recover more quickly.

Within our hospital, we have created a special area just for the care of our knee and hip replacement patients. No hospital gowns for this crowd – you get to wear your own clothes! And, family members are encouraged to participate in group therapy and other activities.

Post-operatively, patients are placed in a dedicated Joint Replacement Academy wing with nurses and therapists trained in orthopedic care. Medical oversight is a key element for the program. Daily visits by a hospitalist are aimed at keeping your recovery on track, and providing patients and families a chance to ask questions regarding progress. Our teams work together to provide seamless and coordinated care.

Pre-operative classes

Offered prior to surgery, our pre-operative education class provides patients with important information on what to expect in surgery, during their hospital stay and following discharge from the hospital. Patients experience better outcomes when they are knowledgeable about expectations and goals. This is also a chance for patients and family members to see the facility prior to surgery day. Each patient receives a Patient Guidebook with valuable information as well space to take notes.

Group therapy

Exercise and therapy is provided in a group setting so our patients can encourage and support each other on the road to recovery. Twice a day, our trained physical therapists gather the patients in the Fiesta Room for therapy sessions. They not only work with the patients during these times, but are on hand to help patients meet ambulation goals, and to work with the coaches to prepare them for caring for their loved one once discharged from the hospital.

Reunion luncheons

Several times a year, graduates of the Joint Replacement Academy have the opportunity to gather once again to celebrate the successes experienced since joint replacement surgery. This luncheon is a chance to see your favorite nurses and physical therapists, reconnect with other former patients, and chat with your surgeon.
