Bone marrow transplant process

Before you schedule an appointment with our team, we must first receive a referral from your physician. Once we receive the referral, our team will meet with you to discuss the transplant options and determine if you are a good candidate.

Before treatment, you will also meet with a financial coordinator and social worker to discuss your insurance benefits and how to minimize out-of-pocket costs.

Post-transplant support

We require patients to schedule follow-up appointments with our team. We provide each patient with the following resources before and after the transplant process:

  • Oncology support group
  • Social worker
  • Dietitian
  • Financial coordinator
  • Hospital chaplain

Bone marrow transplant at Methodist Healthcare

Bone marrow exists inside the bones in the body and is made up of stem cells. When bone marrow becomes compromised by disease, including certain types of cancer, a bone marrow transplant may be needed to replace damaged stem cells with healthy ones.
