Maternity classes and tours

It’s never too early to start planning for excellent care. In addition to facility tours, we provide a variety of courses that can help you get ready for the arrival of your little one.

Breastfeeding Classes

If you are expecting or recently gave birth, our breastfeeding class is taught by an expert breastfeeding educator. You will learn to master the basics of this simple yet essential task. After this class, you will know anatomy, techniques, and positioning to help the infant latch on, how to prevent problems, how to hand express, and how to properly use a breast pump.

Spouses are more than welcome to join, you don't have to come alone.

Newborn Care and Prepared Childbirth Class

The Methodist Hospital Hill Country OB team leads a weekly class at the Cailloux Birthing Center (Women’s Pavilion) on infant care techniques such as diaper changing, bathing, safe sleeping practices, cord care, and identifying signs of jaundice for new parents and caretakers. Both moms and dads—understand the process of labor and delivery and learn techniques to cope with labor.

For more information about upcoming classes, please call (830) 997-1253.

Mother/Baby care program

Methodist Healthcare supports and participates in the Mother/Baby Care program. Our postpartum rooms are specially designed for this purpose: to give both mother and baby plenty of “getting-to-know-you” time.

Therefore, the Newborn Nursery may seem somewhat empty at our hospital. This is because we encourage moms to get acquainted with their babies by spending this important time together. It’s a good time for you to ask questions and learn from your nurses. Occasionally, it may be necessary for your baby to be visit the nursery.

Postpartum care

Having a baby changes everything. To help you manage one of life's biggest adjustments, we offer postpartum care services for moms and their support partners. We help you learn proper breastfeeding techniques, screen for postpartum depression, offer counseling services and more.

Families grow here

Not only are we committed to delivering your baby safely, but our focus is on a personalized approach for each family who visits a Methodist Healthcare facility. Don't take our word for it - hear directly from some of our Methodist families about their experiences at our facilities.
