Mother/Baby Care program
Methodist Healthcare supports and participates in the Mother/Baby Care program. Our postpartum rooms are specially designed for this purpose: to give both mother and baby plenty of “getting-to-know-you” time.
Therefore, the Newborn Nursery may seem somewhat empty at our hospitals. This is because we encourage moms to get acquainted with their babies by spending this important time together. It’s a good time for you to ask questions and learn from your nurses. Occasionally, it may be necessary for your baby to be visit the nursery.
During our Peek-A-Boo tours, we offer you an inside look of our childbirth facilities to see the personalized care, comprehensive services and comfort features designed to meet you and your family's needs.
Prenatal support and education
We want you to cherish the memories of your child’s birth. Our educational opportunities will help you prepare for the experience. When you attend prenatal care classes, you will receive important information designed for your entire family. We have certified childbirth educators on staff who are delighted to be a part of this wonderful experience.
For prenatal care and maternity classes, you can register online or call (210) 575-0355 to schedule. You can also pre-register for your delivery online to save yourself some time when you arrive at the hospital.
Remember, registration is required for all classes. Classes vary as to length of time and are offered during the day, evenings and on weekends.
Neonatal intensive care
Sometimes after delivery, our tiniest patients may need a bit more assistance. Should you need it, our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides the highest level of NICU care in San Antonio. We also offer Level III NICU care at Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan and Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak, and direct access to Methodist Hospital’s NICU for our Methodist Hospital | Atascosa babies.
All of our NICUs offer direct access to Methodist Children’s Hospital if necessary.

What's more, because our full-service children's hospital, Level IV NICU and women’s services are all located in the same building, you and your child can both receive the care you need in the same location.
